About Chroma Digital
We build colour e-ink signage for public spaces: low-power, wireless, and readable anywhere. Our mission is to bring clear, up-to-date information to the places that need it most, without the infrastructure burden of mains power.
What we do
Public spaces depend on clear, timely information: parking availability, bus departures, community notices, wayfinding. Traditionally, digital signage has required a mains power supply and a network cable, which means expensive groundwork, ongoing electricity costs, and installation that simply isn’t possible in many locations.
Chroma Digital changes that equation. Our signs use colour e-ink (E Ink Spectra 6), electronic paper that holds its image using only the physics of charged pigment particles, drawing no power at all between updates. A full-colour panel can run entirely on a small solar cell or battery pack, with very little to service. There is no mains supply to install, no trench to dig, and no electrician to call.
The problem we solve
Operators (councils, transport authorities, parking managers) need to keep the public informed without the cost and complexity of traditional digital infrastructure. Chroma Digital gives them a way to deploy live, updateable colour signs in locations that were previously limited to static printed boards: remote bus stops, unstaffed car parks, rural trail junctions, temporary event sites.
Content is updated wirelessly from a browser. The Chroma Digital control platform lets operators compose information, preview it pixel-perfectly, and push it to any sign in their fleet, with no specialist hardware, on-site visit or downtime.
Our approach
We believe the best infrastructure is the infrastructure you don’t have to install. Every design decision (from the choice of electronic paper to the way content is cached locally on each device) follows from a commitment to resilience with minimal resource consumption. Signs that hold their last image at zero power never go blank in a network outage. Panels with no moving parts and no backlight have no components that wear out. Low energy use is what makes the product more reliable and longer-lasting, not a compromise on it.
Built on better principles
Sustainability is built into colour e-ink signage, which is what lets it work where nothing else can.
Low power by design
Colour e-ink draws energy only during a refresh, then holds the image at zero power indefinitely. A single solar cell or battery pack keeps a sign running, with no mains connection or trenching required.
Reaches everywhere
Because power is no obstacle, Chroma Digital signs can be deployed in locations where no cable has ever run: remote countryside trails, unstaffed bus shelters, rural notice boards, and off-grid car parks.
Built to last
Reflective e-ink has no backlight to burn out and no moving parts to wear. Content updates wirelessly from a browser; the hardware itself requires no on-site maintenance visits once installed.
Clear for everyone
Six-colour electronic paper delivers bold, high-contrast information that remains perfectly legible in direct sunlight, at distance, and from any angle. Good information design, accessible by default.
